CEDAR BRACES Cedar braces should only be used structurally after consulting with a local handyman, contractor, architect, or engineer. We do not load test our product so have them consult with us first if need be. They can make sure you get the correct size for your application and use the correct sized fasteners and installation locations for the correct result. If being used decoratively only, however you may use the following technique. Simply predrill 1-2 holes in each of the locations on the diagram and pass appropriately sized screws through the brace and into the post/wall/ceiling hitting a stud or something solid designed to hold screws.
NOTE: If used outdoors we recommend sealing the wood to minimize the chance of it cracking over time. Sealing with oil-based paints (not latex), stain, or clear sealant is preferred. Large timbers can be subjected to small cracks over time nonetheless up to 1/16” wide without compromising the product.
