CEDAR CORBELS Our cedar corbels are decorative only and can be installed a couple different ways. If you plan to use them structurally you must first consult with a qualified handyman, contractor, engineer, or architect first. For decorative use you can use adhesive only on the back – usually construction adhesive available in a caulk-like tube at local hardware stores. For stronger application you can use long deck screws 3-6” in length. We recommend drilling a pilot hole in the desired location first with a wood drill bit slightly smaller than the screw to avoid cracking the corbel. If the screw is recessed into the bracket you can fill the hole with wood putty or a wooden plug (not included) afterwards to conceal the fastener.
NOTE: If used outdoors we recommend sealing the wood to minimize the chance of it cracking over time. Sealing with oil-based paints (not latex), stain, or clear sealant is preferred. Large timbers can be subjected to small cracks over time nonetheless up to 1/16” wide without compromising the product.
